The Crow and the Snake
A starving crow wandered through the grass hoping to find something to eat. Seeing a large snake coiled up sleeping under the sun, the crow rushed forward in excitement. Without considering the danger, he plunged his beak into the snake's back to hunt it. Instantly awakened from sleep, the venomous snake turned around and bit the crow severely.
As venom spread through his body, the dying crow realized his fatal mistake. "What an unfortunate bird I am," groaned the crow, "thinking I found great booty, I lost my life." Greedy moves made without thought bring great disaster upon a person. Those who ignore danger out of greed find no comfort in belated regret.
Greed blinds a person's eyes. Reckless steps bring destruction. Do not rush into danger deceived by appearances. Overcome by greed, one loses life.
Uncalculated moves end in grief. Losing home wheat while seeking distant rice. Late regret yields no benefit.
