The Crow and the Pitcher
On a hot summer day, a crow exhausted from thirst found a deep earthenware pitcher in the garden. There was a small amount of water at the bottom of the pitcher, but the crow's beak could not reach the bottom of the narrow-necked pitcher. The crow tried to knock over the pitcher but the pitcher was too heavy; not giving up, he began collecting pebbles around one by one with his beak and dropping them into the pitcher. As the stones filled, the water level slowly rose and the crow finally drank to his fill when the water reached the surface.
In difficult situations where brute force is insufficient, reasoning, acting patiently, and producing practical solutions lead to victory. Not giving up in the face of difficulties and using the mind eliminates obstacles that seem impossible. Drop by drop labor and patient effort are the greatest strength carrying to the goal. When mind and patience unite, no obstacle can withstand.
Mind and patience overcome obstacles brute force cannot solve. Where brute force is not enough, mind works. Patient effort overcomes obstacles. A mind that does not give up achieves the impossible.
Pebbles raise the water. Practical solution saves life. Mind and patience bring victory.
