The Clown and the Peasant
Once upon a time, a great festival was set up in the square of an old town where cool waters flowed. The people of the town waited impatiently to watch the performers who wanted to show their talents. A famous clown who came onto the stage wrapped his cloak tightly around himself and smiled at the audience. The clown imitated an imaginary pig that he hid under his cloak so perfectly that everyone was filled with admiration. The crowd that filled the theatre gave this imitation a storm of applause and poured praise on the man. A countryman in plain clothes who came forward from among the crowd said that this imitation was not so successful.
The countryman announced that the next day he would make a sound closer to the real one on the same stage. The next evening the theatre hall was filled with people full of prejudice who wanted to see the failure of the countryman. First the clown came onto the stage and again made a perfect sound of a pig from behind his cloak. While the audience applauded the clown merrily, the countryman walked with heavy steps towards the middle of the stage. The countryman too covered himself with his wide cloak and set to work in a way that nobody noticed. Suddenly a sharp sound of a pig that rose from under the cloak began to ring in the hall.
But the audience full of prejudice began to boo the countryman and to shout that the sound of the clown was more real. The countryman took out the live piglet he had hidden under his cloak and showed it to everyone. It turned out that the countryman had made this sound by gently pinching the ear of the real pig under the cloak. When the people understood that they had not liked the sound of a real pig and had applauded the false imitation, they felt a great shame. The countryman on the stage threw the blinded prejudices of the people in their faces and left the place proudly. When prejudgements blind the eyes, humankind becomes unable to tell the voice of truth from its false copy. Do not be deceived by appearances.
