The Camel Seen for the First Time
Long ago people lived happily in a hot, faraway village. The people of this village never saw a camel. One day a huge animal appeared from the desert. The big creature with a high hump walked slowly nearer. The villagers saw this strange animal and felt great fear. Everybody shouted, ran home and shut the doors tightly. People watched the giant creature from the windows with frightened eyes.
But the camel stood calmly and hurt nobody. The brave village chief went outside and watched the camel. The camel only ate the green grass beside the road. The chief said, "This animal is not so dangerous." The other villagers heard this and slowly came outside. They saw how gentle and quiet the animal was.
A brave man came closer and stroked the camel's head. The camel was not angry and bent its head kindly. The villagers put a rope on its neck and walked it. Even little children rode the camel and laughed happily. Soon people loved this sweet animal and forgot their fear.
People always fear strange things for no reason at all.
