The Camel and the Elephant, Candidates for King
Long ago, next to an old forest with cool streams, there was great excitement. The friendly forest animals wanted to choose a new king. The tall Camel and the huge Elephant stepped forward for the crown. Each of them believed that he was the strongest leader. The cheerful birds and the small animals waited for this contest. The Elephant said in a loud voice, "I am the biggest animal in this forest."
The Camel jumped forward and said, "I am the tallest, so I see everything." The two big candidates boasted about their size and their strength for hours. Meanwhile a clever Monkey watched them happily from a high branch. The clever Monkey climbed down and stood in front of the candidates. "Being big is not enough for a good king," he said. The Monkey turned to the Elephant and said, "You are afraid of a tiny mouse."
Then he looked at the Camel and added, "And you are not brave in danger." All the animals happily clapped for these true words. The Camel and the Elephant bowed their heads in shame. Both candidates understood that size does not make a fair king. The forest animals chose a wiser and fairer leader for themselves. So joy and peace came back to the green forest. Real leadership is not in height, but in mind and courage. A big body does not make a big mind.
