The Camel and Jupiter

A camel admiring the impressive and sharp horns on the bull's head was not satisfied with his own state. Appearing before the god Jupiter, the camel expressed his desire to have strong horns like the bull. The camel begged "Give me impressive horns like the bull so I can frighten everyone in the forest with my majesty." Jupiter was greatly angered by the camel's excessive requests instead of being content with the body he was given.

Instead of granting horns to the camel's greedy and envious request, Jupiter answered by shortening his ears. While expecting to have horns like the bull, the camel lost his long ears and fell into a ridiculous situation. Not knowing his limits and not being content with what he had, the greedy camel lost even what he possessed while asking for more. Those who are discontented with their state and succumb to excessive greed lose even the blessings they hold.

One who does not know their limits loses what they hold. Greed brings loss. The discontented loses what they have. Excessive ambition breeds disaster.

One who envies others loses their own worth. Seeking horns leads to losing ears. The greedy succumbs to their ambition.
