The Bull and the Calf

Once upon a time, a majestic bull lived at the edge of a wide farm where cool waters flowed gently. This muscular and strong animal was the most striking dweller of the farm with his broad chest and sharp horns. One day, while the sweet coolness of the evening was falling, the animals turned towards the narrow stable door. The old and experienced bull too came up to the front of the door in order to enter his own narrow stall. But because of his huge body he got stuck in the narrow opening of the door and had trouble getting inside. Just then a small and inexperienced calf that was jumping merrily around noticed the effort of the bull. The calf, who watched the struggle of the old giant with curious eyes, came near him at once.

In his own way he wanted to be clever, to save the big horned animal and to show him the way. “My huge friend, you are wearing and choking yourself for nothing,” he said with his thin voice. “If you bend your shoulder a little to the left and pull your back legs in, you will fit inside easily.” The little calf smiled and swelled his chest with pride, as if he had solved a great secret. But the strong bull slowly turned his head before this impatient and know all manner. He took a deep breath and looked the young calf over with his sunken eyes. “Calm down now, little shrimp,” the old bull rumbled with a manner sure of himself.

“When you had not even come into this world, I was passing through these narrow doors hundreds of times.” Upon this answer the calf did not know what to say and drew back in shame. The strong bull waited for the right moment with the experience that the years had earned him and calmly stretched his body. With a single move he slipped through the narrow door and comfortably reached his place in the stable. The young calf, understanding that life consists not only of eagerness but of things lived through, quietly drew back to his place. Advice given without knowing the worth of experience only lays bare the raw mistake of the one who gives it. You do not sell cress to the cress seller.
