The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Long ago, next to an old forest with cool streams, there was a happy village. On the hills above this little village lived a young and curious shepherd. Every morning the shepherd took his sweet sheep to the green meadows. Alone on the mountain all day, he sometimes felt very bored. While the wind blew softly, the shepherd wanted to play a new game. One day he climbed the hill and started to shout towards the village. "Help, help, a big wolf is attacking the sheep!" he cried.

The villagers dropped their work and ran up the hill. But on the hill they only saw the laughing shepherd. He looked at their surprised faces and laughed out loud. The villagers got very angry and went back to the village. A few days later the shepherd told the same lie again. The kind villagers ran up the hill to help once more. Again the shepherd made fun of the people and tricked them.

In the evening, when the sky grew dark, a huge wolf really came out of the forest. In great fear the shepherd shouted towards the village as loud as he could. "Please help me, this time the wolf is really here!" he said. But the villagers thought about another joke and nobody came. The wolf frightened all the sheep and drove them far away. Even when liars tell the truth, nobody believes them. The truth always comes to light.
