The Boastful Athlete

A proud athlete comes back to his home town. The man arrives from the faraway island of Rhodes. He gathers the people in the village square and boasts. "I am the best and the strongest athlete in the world," he says.

With great pride he goes on talking to the villagers. "In Rhodes I jumped very far and everybody was amazed," he says. "All the nobles and all the people there are my witnesses." The people listen to his empty words in silence.

A clever villager stands in front of the boastful man. "We need no far witnesses, my friend," he says. "Here is the island of Rhodes, and here is your chance!" "Now jump here and we will see!" The lying athlete cannot say one word and turns red.

Actions speak louder than words.
