The Birdcatcher and the Stork
Long ago an old birdcatcher lived in a green village. He sowed fresh wheat seeds in his field. But naughty cranes came every day and ate the seeds. The old man spread a big net on the ground. Next morning he saw many birds inside the net. The net did not hold only hungry cranes.
Among them stood a white stork with long legs. When the man came near, the frightened stork flapped its wings. In tears, the stork began to beg the old birdcatcher. It said: 'Please set me free, I am not a harmful crane!' It said: 'I never harmed your field and I was always good.' It added: 'I care for my family and help my old parents.'
The birdcatcher listened calmly, but he did not change his decision. The old man looked at the stork and spoke sadly. He said: 'I know that you are a good bird.' 'But I found you with the thieves who ruin my field.' 'You chose bad friends, so you will share their punishment.' The birdcatcher took the stork away with the other cranes.
