The Birdcatcher and the Lark
Long ago a small lark lived in a green field. Every morning it flew happily and sang beautiful songs. One day an old birdcatcher came to the field. He set a big net and spread wheat grains on the ground. The lark watched the man with curiosity from a high branch. The little bird flew down and asked him about his work. Smiling, the man said he was building a lovely city for birds.
He added that the tasty wheat was a gift for the birds. The lark believed his sweet words at once and felt very happy. It was very hungry, so it came down to the ground. It walked towards the net to eat the tasty grains. The moment it touched the food, the hidden trap closed. The poor lark found itself inside the thin nets. It beat its wings in fear, but it could not get out.
The birdcatcher came quickly and took the little bird in his hand. The lark understood the trick, but now it was too late. It learned bitterly that a great danger waits behind sweet words. We must not trust only sweet words and walk into unknown dangers. Honeyed words draw the snake out of its hole.
