The Bat and the Two Weasels
Once a little bat lived in a dark cave. The bat loved night flights and tasty insects. One evening the bat flew carelessly and fell down. Right then a quick weasel came out of the bushes. The weasel jumped on the little bat and held it. The weasel hated birds and wanted to eat the bat.
The bat was very afraid, but it made a clever plan. The bat said: "I am not a bird, look, I am a mouse." The weasel looked at its ears and believed the bat. So the weasel let the little bat go, and the bat escaped. A few days later the bat flew carelessly again and fell. This time another weasel that hated mice caught the bat.
The bat shouted: "I am not a mouse, I have wings, I am a bird!" The second weasel saw the wings and believed the bat. That weasel loved birds, so it let the bat go at once. The clever bat flew up to the sky and went home safely. Twice the bat used its mind and saved its own life. A quick change in new situations keeps us safe from danger.
