The Baby and the Crow

On a sunny spring day a sweet baby lived in a small village. The baby cried all day long and never went quiet. Its mother sang songs again and again to calm it down. A clever crow sat in a big tree near the house. Every day the crow watched this garden and looked for food. One afternoon the baby started to cry loudly again.

The mother got very tired and finally a little angry. She opened the window and shouted at the black crow outside. "Be quiet now, or I will give you to this crow!" she said. The crow heard these words and got very excited. It thought about a tasty meal and waited on the branch. The baby cried a little longer, but the crow waited patiently.

Soon the baby got tired and slowly went quiet. The mother hugged her baby with love and kissed it softly. She laid it in the cradle and covered it with a soft blanket. The crow saw all this and was very surprised and sad. It understood that angry words of people are not promises. It flapped its wings quietly and flew far away. Words said in anger do not always show the real feelings. Fine words butter no parsnips.
