The Ant
Long ago a very greedy farmer lived in a small village. This farmer had a lot of wheat and fruit in his own field. But he was never happy with his own harvest. Every night he went secretly to the neighbours' fields and stole their crops. The villagers saw the empty fields and became very sad and surprised. The farmer hid the stolen wheat in his dark storeroom and laughed.
One evening a wise old man came to the farmer. The old man asked him, "Is your own work not enough for you?" The farmer said proudly, "Another man's goods always taste sweeter to me." At this answer the old man got very angry and struck the ground with his staff. At that moment a great light flashed and the farmer suddenly grew smaller. The old man said, "From now on you will carry other people's grain all your life."
Before the farmer understood anything, he turned into a tiny ant. Now he had to walk on the ground with his very small body. His old habit did not change, so he still looked for grains of wheat in the fields. Day and night he had to carry loads bigger than himself. He paid for other people's bread with a tired life. In the end the ant understood that greed brought him no happiness at all. The one who wants another man's goods loses his own too. The belly of a greedy man gets full, but his eyes never do.
