The Ant and the Dove
Long ago a small ant lived beside a cool forest river. Every day the little ant worked and gathered food. A white dove lived in a huge tree nearby. The dove sang sweet songs and calmed the forest. The two kind neighbours always smiled at each other.
One hot summer day the ant became very thirsty. It walked slowly down to the river bank. Suddenly it slipped and fell into the rushing water. The ant struggled hard but could not get out. The kind dove saw the ant from her tree. She flew down quickly from the blue sky. She tore a big leaf and dropped it down. The ant climbed on the leaf and reached land.
A few days later a bad hunter came. He quietly aimed at the dove in the tree. The ant saw this and quickly climbed his foot. It bit his foot with all its strength. The hunter shouted in pain and dropped his arrow. The dove heard the cry and flew into the sky. Good deeds always come back to the giver. One good turn deserves another.
