The Angel and the Traveller
Once upon a time, at the edge of an old forest where cool waters flowed, there lived a wise traveller who sought the secrets of life. With the fire of curiosity in his soul he wandered from land to land, and he wished to observe the moments in which divine justice was revealed. One day, as he was going along the dusty path, he met a young traveller with a radiant face and a calm gaze. These two strangers, united by the desire to journey, decided to walk together in the company of a deep conversation. The traveller felt the peace that spread around when his young friend smiled, but he could not solve his mystery. Towards evening they became guests in the humble hut of a poor but extremely generous villager.
The villager gladly shared with his guests the delicious soup and the warm bread that were his only possession. At midnight, while everyone was sleeping, the young traveller suddenly stood up and set fire to the villager's old barn. Although the traveller was horrified at this senseless evil, he kept his silence upon his companion's warning. The next day they arrived at the magnificent mansion of a stingy and cruel merchant who drove them from the door. While the merchant scolded them and threw stones, the young man repaired the garden wall of the mansion that was about to collapse. The traveller could no longer hold back his anger and, rebelling against the injustice, cried out loudly.
"What logic can there be in bringing disaster upon the one who does good and rewarding evil?" The young traveller paused, the cloak upon him suddenly gleamed, and angel wings embroidered with gold thread appeared on his back. "O traveller, you look only at the face that is seen, but I know the depth of wisdom," said the angel. Under the burning barn of the poor man a great treasure was hidden, and now he will easily be able to reach that treasure. But under the wall of the stingy merchant I straightened the wall so that a priceless hoard would remain covered. The traveller, who grasped the fine scales of justice, bowed in deep awe while the angel disappeared from sight. Every evil that the human eye sees hides a great wisdom and a good behind itself. Every night has its day, and every evil has its good.
