Pleasure and Pain

Once upon a time, beyond lush green valleys, on the highest peak of the sky, lived two legendary beings. One of them was Golden Pleasure who spread joy to people, and the other was Silver Pain standing in dark shadows. Wherever Pleasure went, it left a sweet peace and endless joy in people's hearts. Pain, on the other hand, brought a bitter sadness and heavy silence wherever it touched. People always ran after Pleasure and wanted to keep Pain completely away from their lands.

One day, Pleasure in bright clothes walked toward Pain in the shadow with an arrogant smile. "People only love me, and no one can tolerate your presence," it said proudly. Pain replied in a calm voice: "The value of your existence is only understood when forgotten in my absence." As this relentless dispute between them grew, they appeared before the wise judge of the universe to solve the matter. The wise judge sat on his throne and listened carefully to the complaints of these two opposing beings.

Pleasure demanded to be the sole ruler of the earth and for Pain to be completely exiled. Pain, on the other hand, argued that if the balance were disrupted, people would be lost in fake happiness. After thinking for a long time, the judge understood that it was impossible to reconcile both. Thereupon, the wise judge bound the two together with a silver beam of light coming from his magical wand. "From now on, you two will move like a single body and never completely separate from each other," he commanded.

From that day on, whenever Pleasure entered through a door, Pain immediately glided right behind it. Thus, people learned the sadness hidden behind joy and the relief appearing at the end of sadness. Completing each other, the two eternal rivals became an unchangeable part of life on earth. Every person who tastes the sweet fruit of life must also accept the bitterness in its seed. He who loves the rose must endure its thorns.
