Not Answering Is Also an Answer
Once upon a time, at the edge of a deep forest where shady trees whispered, there lived a bad-tempered donkey. Whenever this donkey saw a self-confident animal, he boiled with envy and always wanted to stir up trouble. In the dense thickets of the same forest there was a wise wild boar who walked with majestic steps and whom everyone respected. With his strong tusks and sharp gaze, this brave animal was known for being just and quite calm. One spring morning the wild boar was coming down the path in good cheer to look for fresh roots. The arrogant donkey, standing in the middle of the road, saw the boar, blocked his way and began to bray mockingly. "Hey, lord of the mud, how funny you look with that ugly face!" he shouted.
The wild boar paused, but he wanted to go on his way as if he had not heard these rude words at all. Getting no answer, the donkey grew even bolder, raised his voice and heaped one ugly insult after another. "Have you no courage at all, that you swallow these heavy words and run away?" he went on provoking. The other lovely birds and curious rabbits of the forest began to watch the coming quarrel with anxious eyes. The donkey boasted, thinking he had driven his rival mad, and believed in his own mind that he looked strong. The wild boar turned back with heavy steps and slowly raised his head so that his pointed tusks gleamed. When their eyes met, a deep silence fell on the forest and everyone held their breath and waited.
The majestic boar cast a deep look of scorn and pity at the poor creature before him. He could not bring himself to waste his strong body and his energy on a foolish babbler. "To strike you a single blow would make you worthy, yet you do not even deserve my anger," he thought. Without saying a word he turned his back and disappeared with dignified steps among the thick greenery. The arrogant donkey, finding no answer to his insult, was left standing there all alone in the open. A noble heart gives the greatest answer by staying silent before the taunts of the ignorant. If speech is silver, silence is gold.
