Momus and Aphrodite
Once upon a time, in a magnificent palace above the clouds, lived gods and goddesses joyfully. The grumpiest resident of this golden palace was Momus, the God of Criticism, who found fault in everything. Beautiful Aphrodite came out into the garden with grace one day, and everyone was amazed by her enchanting beauty. With her glittering dress and golden yellow hair, she was attractive enough to make all the flowers in the garden jealous. But Momus immediately took action to search for a hidden flaw behind this flawless beauty.
Momus began to look over Aphrodite from head to toe with his sharp eyes and examine her carefully. First, he looked at her soft voice and sweet smile, but could not find any fault. Then he focused on her silk clothes and the unique grace in her step, but failed again. Everyone was watching Momus's effort with curiosity, and deep silence reigned in the palace. Finally, drawing a sigh full of envy, he shouted eagerly. "At last I caught you, it's impossible for you to look this flawless!" muttered Momus.
Aphrodite smiled and asked, "What kind of flaw did you find in me, I wonder?" Momus stepped forward with arrogance and said, "The sandals on your feet make too much squeaking noise when you walk!" Everyone in the garden burst into laughter at this funny criticism. Aphrodite maintained her composure in the face of this meaningless accusation and smiled politely. She knew very well that people who search for flaws even within perfection can never be happy.
While Momus tried to boast about this trivial detail he found, he became a laughingstock. Helpless in the face of flawless beauty, the grumpy critic quietly walked away in shame. The palace people celebrated Aphrodite's grace and wisdom with applause. People who always look for a fault in everything can never enjoy beauty. He who seeks a faultless friend remains friendless.
