Hermes and the Sculptor

On a sunny day, Hermes became a man. Hermes was curious about the love of the people. So he went to the shop of a great sculptor. The shop was full of beautiful statues of gods. Hermes looked first at the big Zeus statue.

He asked the sculptor about the price. The master sculptor said, "This statue is one coin." Then Hermes looked at Hera and asked the price. The master answered, "That statue is more expensive." At last Hermes walked to his own statue. Hermes thought, "My statue is very expensive."

Curiously, he asked the price of his own statue. The sculptor said, "Buy the other two, this one is free." Hermes was very surprised and very ashamed. Proud people sometimes feel very sad at the end.

Pride goes before a fall.
