Hermes and the Craftsmen
Long ago a cheerful god named Hermes lived. Great Zeus sent Hermes down to the earth. He carried a magic bottle of lie syrup. Zeus wanted an equal drop for every craftsman.
Hermes ran to town and visited the shops. The carpenter, the baker and the tailor got one drop. All the masters drank the sweet syrup happily.
Then came an old shoemaker, alone in his shop. Hermes poured all the rest into the shoemaker's cup.
After that day all craftsmen told small lies. But the shoemaker always told the biggest, funniest lies. Now people listened to the masters with some doubt.
A liar slowly loses the trust of everyone. Lies have short legs and never run far.
