Demades and the Fable
One day Demades the speaker wanted to talk to the people. People came together in the square and Demades talked about important things. But nobody listened to him carefully. The people talked to each other and laughed.
Demades got angry, but he made a plan. He said, "I want to tell you a beautiful story." Suddenly everyone went quiet and started to listen. Demades said, "A bird, a fish and a woman walked together." "The bird flew, the fish swam and crossed the river."
Then Demades stopped his story and said nothing. The people asked, "What happened to the woman?" Demades looked at the people and answered. "She is very angry with you," he said. "Because you leave important things and only listen to stories!" The people heard these words and felt very ashamed.
It is not right to leave important work for fun. Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
